"Without a sense or urgency, desire loses its value." -Jim Rohn
"I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do." -Leonardo da Vinci
The past two weeks have been very eye opening. Less than a month into my own fitness blog I had already lost interest in tracking my diet and fitting in all my weekly workouts around my work and social schedule. I ate poorly at birthday parties, missed workouts to watch my favorite television shows, smashed buckets of popcorn at the movies, and destroyed ultimate nachos during the Super Bowl. I knew better, and I desired to eat good and exercise, but I lacked a sense of urgency!
We all have goals, dreams, desires, wants, but those are not enough to change what is, into what we want to become. We must be intentional, and we must act quickly. Once we find motivation we gotta put our foot on the gas and get to it! We have to get in shape on purpose, it won't happen by accident. The reality is we are all going to fall off our diet at some point. We will all miss workouts it's inevitable. The deciding factor that determines our success is whether or not we get back on the diet right away and hit our workouts harder than ever the next session. I'll be the first to admit, the diet is by far the hardest part for me. I actually love healthy foods, but I love pizza and ice cream and junk too. I just straight up love food. We are friends, food and I get along great, but eating bad makes me look bad. That part I hate! I will diet hard all day, workout like crazy, and then get home and eat a frosting covered chocolate cookie like Type 2 diabetes is the new cool craze! Nights are the worst, when I am sitting alone watching T.V., or at a friends or at a restaurant surrounded by people excited to eat awful. The hardest part about looking and feeling awesome is making good food choices. You cannot out train a bad diet. Doesn't matter what style of training you do, if you eat terrible you will look terrible. If you eat sugar, starchy carbs, and empty calorie drinks you will look the part. Now there are IIFYM diets, Carb Cycles, Cheat Meals, and so on and so forth that you can utilize to get lean and still include some fun foods within reason, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm referring to when you haven't lost a pound and you give yourself a "Cheat Day" because you "dieted" so good all week and you somehow think you earned it. That's the trap I have fallen into. I'm so good at convincing myself I can get away with it. We all are great at selling ourselves on eating what we shouldn't because we did a workout. It doesn't balance, you can't do one without the other.
This week however, I got my sense of urgency back! I am ready to rock out these workouts and cook my meals. Chicken, turkey, tuna with jasmine rice, sweet potato, broccoli, asparagus..... the staples. I feel like I cannot wait any longer, I am excited to look awesome. I want it more now than I have in the past 3 years. You too must adopt a sense of urgency! You must make it happen right now, not next year, or next month, or next Monday, lets do this together NOW! We don't have time, we make time. I'm not going to be the guy in the swimming pool with my shirt ON this summer and neither should you have to hide the way you look, because you can't hide how you feel. Come see me in both clubs, I will be in Beltline Koko Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Cascade Koko Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to Smartraining and Cardio 2.0, I will be doing Power Tower, Body weight plyometrics, Functional movements, Strength Calisthenics, and Olympic Lifts. Include me in your journey to get fit, and I will do it with you!
EAT TO LIVE, DON'T LIVE TO EAT......yea right ;-)
